Challenging trip back to Ireland
Yesterday we had a challenging day. Our ship from Oslo arrived into Kiel a bit late (so we lost time) and we were a long time in queue to disembark.
Traffic on the autobahn was very heavy with +1 hour delays around Hamburg and Bremen which also set us back.
However, we then ran into a total autobahn closure on the A1 for three hours – due to an accident. The combination of all these delays meant we would miss our ferry back to UK from Rotterdam and connecting ferry back to Ireland.
We had a number of transport options – but they were limited by this being a peak time for ferries into Ireland.
Eventually we managed to get a ticket from Cherbourg in France back to Dublin directly. So we adjusted our route and drove through Netherlands, Belgium and stayed near Dunkerque, France last night – for a total of 14 hours in the car – and with a lot of late night charging.
We experienced unplanned road-tripping yesterday and some of the insane routing decisions the Porsche Charge Planner can make – which we'll share when we get back and finish this trips write-up.
We're now in the busy queue for the ferry back to Ireland - whew!
